“When Crossfit Woburn opened up close by my home, I was skeptical. I have been a member of Crossfit Boston since 2007 and am fortunate to have been trained by some of the most experienced coaches in the Crossfit community. With the recent explosion of new affiliates in the area, I figured that Crossfit Woburn would by owned by a newbie looking to make a quick buck by opening the latest fad gym. Several of my Crossfit Boston buddies had ventured out to “try on” other affiliates only to come back to Crossfit Boston for the excellent coaching and community that I had come to take for granted. Nonetheless, I signed up for an introductory class, fully expecting to be sorry that I had come. I couldn’t have been more wrong. From the moment I walked into the first class, I knew that Mike was a trainer whose style reflects the old school Crossfit methodology that attracted me to Crossfit in the first place. Mike knows his stuff and is able to teach even the more technical movements to all levels of students. “Playing 3 sports in both high school and college, I have always considered myself an athlete.  After I graduated college, I would go for a run here and there and visited the gym every once in a while but I had zero motivation.  I needed a change.   I overheard some people talking about this new gym, CrossFit.  I looked it up on the internet and found one in Woburn.  I joined Crossfit Woburn back in February and I have never seen results so fast. I started off at a slow but steady pace and now I am stronger, leaner and most importantly healthier than I have ever been. Crossfit Woburn has introduced me to a healthy lifestyle that I will now never stray from and the community is beyond what was expected. We are not only a team but a family. Crossfit Woburn has a wide range of athletes which is comforting. “I found going to the gym boring, I’d attend regularly for a month or two and then something would happen and I would never see the inside of the fitness center for several months at a time. I had been interested in trying CrossFit for the past few years, but there were no affiliates in the area that were in a convenient location for me.

Shortly after CrossFit Woburn opened, I attended the intro session one Saturday morning. Grossly out of shape, overweight, and lacking the flexibility to perform mundane tasks, I struggled through the warm up and the baseline workout. I knew that I needed to give CrossFit a try to see if I could lose weight, improve my appearance, and raise my general level of fitness. I decided to sign up for three months to see if this program would work for me.

I committed to the program by attending classes a few times a week, Mike would see what I could do and would adapt the daily workouts to my capabilities. Things started to change quickly, within the first couple of weeks my flexibility and stamina began to improve. The next thing I noticed were my clothes began to fit better and that I could perform the workouts as prescribed. For the first time in my life it was enjoying for me to exercise, I was getting support and encouragement from my fellow Crossfitters and I pushed myself to continue to improve. 

CrossFit Woburn also helped me by introducing me to the Paleo lifestyle, a nutrition program that makes sense and really works — lean protein, green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, plus other dietary fats.

I’ve now been part of the CrossFit Woburn family for nine months; I’ve dropped thirty-five pounds, I’m healthier, stronger, and have more energy to take on whatever life throws at me.” -M.C.
